A bus carrying 22 people on board was seconds away from plunging 300 feet over a cliff in the Alps. Authorities say the driver of the bus passed out on a road in the Austrian Alps. A 65 year old passenger, who was a French tourist, saved the day jumping to the front and applying the brake after the 76-year-old driver lost consciousness. The bus was headed straight for the cliff, the BBC reports. The vehicle had crashed through a guardrail before coming to a stop, while it was partly hanging over the edge. “We were a hair’s breadth from catastrophe,” an Austrian police spokesman says, per AFP. He says it was “incredible luck” that the passenger, who’d been sitting right the driver, was able to stop the bus just in time.
