Soundwave Tattoos Are the Next Big Thing in Body Art

While tattoo portraits remain the gold standard in terms of honoring a person that is near and dear to your heart, a new trend has emerged that is equal parts tribute as it is a technological advancement for the industry.

Called “soundwave tattoos,” the designs themselves are tangible audio files that can be played back using your cell phone — resulting in works of art with audio homages to loved ones, pets and whatever else a person might want to be able to unlock from an audio perspective for the rest of their lives.

Revolutionized by Skin Motion, the actual tattoo itself is created like any other artistic abstraction, and it’s in fact the app that allows people to hear playback.

According to their company history, “soundwave tattoos were created to do all of these things and more. It all started when two friends got the opening line from ‘Tiny Dancer’ tattooed by Nate Siggard. As they were leaving after their appointment, Nate’s girlfriend Juliana said ‘wouldn’t it be cool if you could listen to the tattoo?’ and Nate quickly realized that he could make that happen. Nate decided he needed one of his own, with Juliana and their 4 month old baby saying ‘I love you’ and filmed it to share online.”

With endless possibilities to choose from — not only from one’s own life — but also music, literature and movies, we definitely could anticipate soundwave tattoos becoming the next big thing.

As of now, a limited number of soundwave tattoos will be available for pre-order prior to the Skin Motion app launch in June 2017.
